The chapter begins with the author providing a brief description of his experience with the "men on the corner", or what some people might call "winos". As he pointed out, all social groups have their own values and mores. His experience showed him that this was the case even for these gentlemen. This chapter is about social structures and social interaction. In addition it will also examine symbolic interaction, functionalism and conflict theory in greater detail. It is certainly a challenging chapter to study, but efforts here will make your studies ahead more rewarding and productive.

Students in my former psychology class will know what the Lucifer Effect is. Though it is examined in psychology it does speak to the notion that our environment can shape us, and shape us into being some of history's worst characters.
